 Competitiveness and Innovation towards green growth in emerging economies: a case study of Brazil

This paper builds on the growing body of literature on long term economic development and environmental protection in developing countries. The objective is to analyse the role of green innovation as a potential catalyst for economic competitiveness, using Brazil as a case study, by econometrically testing the impact of green innovation on labour productivity. The analysis is carried out at the sectoral level (23 sectors) for the period 2001 to 2008, combining two datasets (National Innovation Survey and National Accounting System). The results show an important relationship between green innovation and labour productivity, suggesting that green innovation can be a driver of economic development.
