The electoral victory in January 25 of the radical left party Syriza has brought the economic political crisis in Greece to a crucial point. The Greek government is demanding to renegotiate its debt and the withdrawal of the memorandum whereby Greece undertook the obligation to tackle its budget deficit through the introduction of severe budget cuts, imposing austerity measures which caused the limitation of several constitutional rights. The article discusses the challenges before the Greek government and explores the origins of the Greek economic crisis and its severe impact on the constitutional and political system since its first appearance in 2010, focusing in particular on the outcome of the referendum held in July 2015.
