Introduction to the Performance Audits in NATO

Abstract [En]: There is limited academic literature on performance auditing at NATO, so this paper has an introductory character for future developments. Only publicly available information was used and it excludes any information which the author has access to as an International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN) Board Member. In this respect, it should be stressed that although this is a particularly descriptive work, some opinions are also given on certain aspects of the audits, which are obviously the author's own and not those of IBAN. The paper firstly describes IBAN's activity in the field of performance audits; secondly, it analyses the application of the international auditing standards by IBAN; and finally, it provides some conclusions for the benefit of NATO in general and the performance auditing carried out by IBAN in particular.

Abstract [It]: C’è una limitata letteratura accademica sul controllo delle prestazioni della NATO, quindi questo documento ha un carattere introduttivo per gli sviluppi futuri. Sono state utilizzate solo informazioni disponibili al pubblico e questo esclude qualsiasi informazione a cui l'autore abbia accesso in qualità di Board Member del International Board of Auditors per la NATO (IBAN). A questo proposito, va sottolineato che, sebbene si tratti di un'opera particolarmente descrittiva, vengono anche espressi alcuni pareri su certi aspetti delle revisioni, che sono ovviamente di competenza dell'autore e non dell'IBAN. Il documento descrive in primo luogo l'attività dell'IBAN nel campo delle verifiche delle prestazioni; in secondo luogo, analizza l'applicazione degli standard internazionali di revisione da parte dell'IBAN; infine, fornisce alcune conclusioni a beneficio della NATO in generale e della revisione delle prestazioni effettuata dall'IBAN in particolare.
